7 ALTERNATIVES TO AIRTIME VIDEO CHAT

1. Airtime

For all of its improvements in randomized video chat, Airtime's dedication to protecting minors from X-rated content has to be its crown jewel. That, coupled with its Facebook connectivity, gives Airtime an air of legitimacy that many other services don't have.Like Google+, it also has YouTube sharing capability. Airtime uses your Facebook data to connect you with like-minded strangers, or even friends of friends, though for now, it's relatively limited to industry insiders.

2.Skype

Ever a classic, Skype is among the reliable, go-to platforms for voice, video and instant messaging. However, unlike most of these other services, Skype requires software installation to your computer.Chatting on Skype is limited to people you know and have added to your contacts. You can use Skype to call phones as well as screen names, send files and screenshare, a great feature for coworkers collaborating remotely. Group video chat is only available with Skype Premium.

3.Google+

Hangout, Google's video chat service, has a leg-up on Skype — it runs straight through your browser, so you can use it on any webcam-enabled computer, no software installation necessary.Use Hangouts to watch YouTube videos, screenshare or edit shared Google Docs with up to 10 friends. Plus, thanks to Google+'s video effects, you can do it all while wearing a top hat and a monocle. Cheerio, chap!

4.Facebook

Video chat on Facebook is about as basic as it gets — no screensharing, no group video chat, no YouTube compatibility. And while the service—which is the product of a partnership with Skype—does have the major advantage of connecting you with what's likely your most thorough contact list, several of the other clients are roping in your Facebook friends, too.The social giant might soon feel the pressure to add more functions if it wants to keep users hooked to the video chat service.

5.Omegle

Unlike most free, anonymous video chat services, Omegle has managed to maintain steady momentum since it was created in March 2009.The site pairs you with a random stranger in your choice of text, audio or video chat format. Manually input your interests to slim down the pickin's, or give Omegle permission to use your Facebook Likes to find folks with similar tastes. Omegle's spy mode sets them apart from the pack; you can ask two strangers a question and watch them discuss it, or opt to discuss a question yourself.

6.Chatroulette

When Chatroulette exploded in early 2010, it became the golden standard for anonymous video chatting. Okay, that's a little generous. But for a site initially run from a 17-year-old's bedroom in Moscow, it was certainly a sensation. The site is still running strong today, with roughly twice as many users online than Omegle. Keep in mind that, unlike Airtime, this voyeur hotspot doesn't use an algorithm to detect X-rated content.

Tinychat is a video chat platform that introduces users to strangers with common interests. The service requires that you create an account or login with Facebook. Once a member, you can browse the directory of chats in categories like comedy, music and gaming. To be fair, though, the site's most popular chat rooms are teeenzon3, t33nheaven and teennlife. Going to go ahead and stamp this one with a big, fat NSFW.

8. ooVooooVoo

boasts power in numbers — this chat service lets you video chat with up to 12 friends. You can run ooVoo through Facebook, the web, or download the software to your computer or mobile device. It's essentially Skype, with the added options to record a video call and send pre-recorded video messages. If screensharing is your jam, go for Google+ or Skype; it's available on Oovoo, but only for a premium.

GET AN UPDATED ARIAL IMAGES OF YOUR HOUSE THROUGH AN EMAIL ALERTS

google satellite images
If you are inside Google Earth or switch to the Satellite View in Google Maps, you can see aerial images of your home and most other places of our planet.
These images are updated every few years (or months depending on the area) and Google, in the long term, is very likely to switch to high-resolution imagery for most countries and regions. Now that Apple has joined the Maps business, providing high-quality imagery will be an even higher priority item for Google.

Email Alerts for Google Maps & Earth

If you would like to know when Google Maps (and Google Earth) is updated with new satellite and aerial images of your area, or any other point of interest, they have built a new alert system called Follow Your World that should keep you in the loop.
To get started, sign-in using your Google Account and mark one or more areas of interest. You can do so by either clicking the points in Google Maps or enter thelatitude and longitude manually.
That’s it. Google will monitor these locations and will send you email alerts as soon as updated satellite and aerial imagery data is available for these areas in Google Maps and Google Earth.

HOW-TO PING IP ADDRESS AND CHECK DNS SETTINGS

In this video tutorial you will see how to test TCP IP connection by using the ping command. Ping is the most important troubleshooting command and it checks the connectivity with the other computers. For example your system’s IP address is 10.10.10.10 and your network servers’ IP address is 10.10.10.1 and you can check the connectivity with the server by using the Ping command.
DNS Domain Name Service, is how your computer turns an address like Google.com into an IP address it can use to connect to Google’s servers. Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) sends your router a list of DNS servers using DHCP when your modem connects to the Internet. Then your router forwards that list of DNS servers to each computer on your network, again using DHCP. We will also see how to check DNS settings.

Video Transcribed
Hi in this session, we will see how to test TCP IP connection by using the ping command.  So to test TCP IP connectivity by using the ping command, use the display of ipconfigcommand to ensure that your network command is not in media disconnected state.
So let us open command prompt and then issue this command.
To open command prompt: go click Start, go to All ProgramsAccessories, and clickCommand Prompt.  Go to the root directory and then issue the command, “ipconfig” and hit enter.  You can see that IP address of my machine is 10.0.0.12 and the default gateway for my machine is 10.0.0.1.
So now let us ping the default gateway and see if we are able to read it.  To ping the gateway, write command, “ping 10.0.01” and then hit enter.  If you get reply from the IP address you’re trying to ping then you’ll surely be able to reach it.  You can also have a look at Ping Statistics for 10.0.0.1 wherein you have sent 4 packets and you have also received 4 packets.
There was absolutely 0% loss in reaching this default gateway.  There could be a possibility that your machine is not hooked on the network.  In such cases, your media adapter where it shows as media disconnected in here.  Let me unhook this machine from the network.  I just disabled the machine from the network.  I got a pop-up over here that my network cable is unplugged.
Now let me issue the same command, “ipconfig.”  See, now it says that “Media disconnected.”  Let me put it on the network, the machine is on and trying to see.  Now it is connected to my local area network.  Let me give the command again and I can see it is now connected.  Now let me try pinging Google from this machine.  So to ping Google, I issue the command, “ping www.google.com” and I’ll hit enter.  I can see that probably it is trying to ping Google but not able to read.  We’ll give some time for the machine to try and read Google.  See, it has given up and it has not been able to read Google.  What could be the reason for that?  Let us go into the network properties of this machine.
To go to network properties: click Start, go to Control Panel, open Network and Internet Connections, and then click Network Connections.  You will see the local area connection.  Right click it, go to its properties, highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click properties.  You will see that there is a DNS server given over here, 10.0.0.10.
So whenever you try ping, say “www.google.com”, this DNS server in here will try to resolve this name to the IP address and then forward all the data packets to that IP address.  I suspect that this DNS server is not reachable from this machine.  Let try pinging this DNS server.  I’ll say “ping 10.0.0.10”, I’ll hit enter.  See, I am correct probably.
If it says, “Request timed out” which means I am not able to reach this DNS server.  So what do I do now?  I need to give an alternate DNS server which is probably up and running on my network.  I know there is another one and I’ll ping in 10.0.0.1 which is another DNS server on my network.  I’ll say “okay” and say “close.”  I can also go and see the settings from ipconfig/all and it will tell me that “okay my IP address is this…” and in DNS servers, I now have now two DNS servers in here and successfully able to ping 10.0.0.1.
So now let us try to ping Google back again and see what happens.  See, the alternate DNS address is able to translate this name into the IP address of Google.  So this is the IP address of Google, 74.125.236.84 and my data packet from this machine is able to go and ping Google.  So it is very important, even if your machine is on network and you’re trying to reach some websites and not able to reach.  The reason could be that the DNS server in between might not be accessible.  You should be having the right configuration of DNS server.  To test that, go ping the DNS servers which are listed in your ipconfig/all and see if your machine is able to reach then.
That’s pretty much it in this segment session.  You are now successfully able to know how to ping a machine and how to check if correct, maybe a resolution is happening.  If not, you can go and specify the DNS servers which are up and running and reachable from your machine.  Thanks for watching.

HOW TO UPDATE GOOGLE CHROME TO THE LATEST VERSION

I have said it before and I will say it again…I feel that Google Chrome is the BEST software to use when browsing the internet. Not only is it fast, but in my humble opinion, it is also the most secure.
Having said that about Google Chrome being the most secure, it also needs the appropriate attention in regards to making sure that it has all security updates applied on a regular basis. The world that we live in today requires us to be very diligent in our security practices.  So make sure you update Google Chrome. This will help you keep your computer secure as it will be equipped with the latest tools.
I wanted to show you how easy it is to check for security updates in your Google Chrome internet browser.

How to update Google Chrome

1. Open Google Chrome.
2. Now look in the top right hand corner of the screen for the Wrench Icon. Actually Google calls this the Spanner icon. The definition of spanner is “A wrench”. Learn something new every day.
3. Click on the Spanner (Wrench) Icon.
4. Click on About Google Chrome.
5. The About Google Chrome dialog box is shown. It will display the current version of Google Chrome and if your Google Chrome needs updating, it will display the wording “Installing New Version“.
6. Once Google Chrome has completed installing the new updates if any, it will display the About Google Chrome dialog box once again with the wording “Relaunch Google Chrome to finish updating“.
7. Click the Relaunch button.
8. When Google Chrome has finished updating and has been restarted, you can do the above process again and it should show the updated version. It will check again for new updates but should not find any new ones to install.

List of Old Doordarshan TV shows and Serials

doordarshan.jpgThe 80s was the era of Doordarshan with soaps like Hum Log, Buniyaad and comedy shows like Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi which made Doordarshan a household name. Circus, Gul Gulshan Gulfam and Nukkad are some of the serials that come instantly to my mind when I think of the good old days of Doordarshan. Those were phenomenal days when people gathered in crowds to watch the telecast of these serials. The characters of Ramayan and Mahabharat were almost worshiped like God and Goddess throughout the country.
Other popular programs included Hindi film songs based programs like Chitrahaar and Rangoli and crime thrillers like Karamchand, Byomkesh Bakshi, Tehkikaat and Janki Jasoos. This is the big list of Old Doordarshan TV shows and serials.

3 Reasons why Facebook bought Instagram

instagramFacebook has bought Instagram, a free photo sharingapplication that allows users to take a photo, apply a digital filter to it, and then share it on a variety of social networking services, for approximately $1 billion in cash and stock. This deal has cost Facebook about a quarter of the cash-on-hand they had as of the end of 2011. It is a big decision for Mark Zuckerberg. He said “For years, we’ve focused on building the best experience for sharing photos with your friends and family. Now, we’ll be able to work even more closely with the Instagram team to also offer the best experiences for sharing beautiful mobile photos with people based on your interests.” Anyway, this is an important milestone for Facebook because it’s the first time they have acquired a product and company. Let’s try to figure out three reasons why Facebook spent $1 billion for a photo sharing software.
1. Instagram is likely to be an important future threat to Facebook. People generally use Facebook on the old desktop-browser, but on their phone, they prefer to use light weight applications such as Twitter or Instagram. With the help of this deal, Facebook succeeded in killing its one of the biggest threats. Giving up 1% of your market capitalization to take out your biggest threat is a wise decision.
2. Facebook is taking mobile platforms very seriously. It wants to create a mobile platform, not just provide a service. It can use Instagram as a launchpad for creating a good platform for mobile users. As far as mobile apps are concerned, Instagram is the most popular social network apart from Facebook and Twitter, and the only mobile-only network.
3. Instagram is not only a viral application but also has the loyalty of a growing community. In last two years, Instagram has grown on the iOS platform and recently opened its community to Android users. The service now has more than 30 million users.
There is an adage, a picture is worth a thousand words, now after this billion dollar deal, this adage should be changed to
A picture is worth is a billion
